My Summer Hockey Camps: Bergeron and Simply Defense
This summer I was lucky enough to go to two different hockey camps. The first one was the Bergeron Hockey Camp at Klick Lewis Arena, which lasted a whole week. The second one was the Simply Defense camp at Twin Ponds, which was three days long. Both camps were a lot of fun and helped me become a better hockey player.
At Bergeron, there were about 50 kids at the camp, so I had the chance to meet lots of new friends. One of my favorite parts was skating with kids who love hockey as much as I do. I also worked really hard on improving my skating, and by the end of the week I could feel a big difference. The coaches were very nice and always helpful. One of them was even from Canada, which was exciting because hockey is such a big sport there. I liked when the coaches told me I was doing a good job because it gave me more confidence. Most of the camp was drills and fun games, but on the last day we played a game, which made the whole week even more special. As a bonus, I got a shirt and a hat from camp to remember it by.
The Simply Defense camp was shorter, but still just as exciting. There were around 50 kids again, so I made more friends while practicing. This camp focused more on defensive skills, and I learned how to poke check and really improved my backwards skating. Those are skills that will help me a lot since I like playing defense. The coaches were just as nice and helpful here too. They pushed me to try new drills I had never done before, which was challenging at times, but I felt proud every time I got better at them.
Even though both camps had a lot of drills, I enjoyed the fun games we played and the encouragement from the coaches. I learned so many new things and met so many new friends. Looking back, I am proud of how much I improved in just a short time. I know all the hard work this summer will help me in the hockey season ahead, and I cannot wait to get back on the ice with my team.
Here are a few photos from the camps
