Hi everyone! I’m Katie, and I’m super excited to share my first-ever sports card show experience with you. On August 10, 2024, I went to a sports card show at Central Penn College with my dad, and it was amazing!
When we first walked in, I was surprised by how many people were there. It was way more crowded than we expected! But I was really glad my dad was there with me. He showed me lots of different cards and even talked about some of the cards he has, like a Ricky Henderson rookie card. It was cool to hear about his collection!
At the show, we were mostly looking for Hendrix Lapierre cards and any Hershey Bears cards. Unfortunately, we didn’t find many Bears cards, but we did see a ton of cards featuring Washington Capitals players like Alex Ovechkin and other NHL legends like Sidney Crosby, Wayne Gretzky, and Mario Lemieux. It was neat to see so many big names in one place!
One of the coolest things I found was a card of Hardy Häman Aktell. I knew a little about him from watching him play with the Hershey Bears this season, so finding his card was really exciting. We managed to get it for $5 instead of $10 by looking up the price online and negotiating with the seller. If you ever go to a card show, my advice is to know the price and how much you want to spend before you buy!
I also came across a fun card of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, but it was priced at $65, which was a bit too high for me. It was still fun to see something so unique, even if I didn’t get it.
Overall, the show was a great way to learn more about hockey and sports card collecting. Seeing all the different cards and learning about new players was really interesting. It also helped me understand more about collecting sports cards, which is something I want to keep doing.
If there’s another card show nearby and we’re not too busy, I’ll definitely ask my dad to go with me again. I already have several Hendrix Lapierre rookie cards, but it’s always fun to see what new treasures you might find!
Thanks for reading about my sports card show adventure. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
