My Experience with the “Take a Shot at Hockey” Program
Recently, I had the chance to participate in the free “Take a Shot at Hockey” program at Twin Ponds in Harrisburg. I first heard about it when my
school sent home a flyer, and I was super excited to learn how to skate! I’ve always wanted to play hockey, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to get started.
The best part about the program is that they loan you equipment, so it’s completely free for the four weeks! This made it easy for kids like me who might not have their own gear yet. When I got on the ice for the first time, I was really nervous. I fell a few times and hit my butt, which made me laugh even though it was a little embarrassing. But I kept getting back up and trying again!
There were several coaches and older kids there to help me, which made the experience much more enjoyable. They were really encouraging and gave me tips on how to balance and get moving on the ice. With their support, I started to feel more confident.
Throughout the program, I worked on various skills like passing the puck, shooting on a goalie, and skating with a stick. I loved every part of it! However, my absolute favorite moment was learning to skate—especially when I “scored” my first goal! It felt amazing to see my hard work pay off, and I couldn’t stop smiling.
As the program came to an end, I felt a bit sad that it was over. I had so much fun and made some new friends along the way. But I’m thrilled to announce that I’m going to start the “Learn to Play Hockey” program for the next six weeks! I’m looking forward to building on what I learned and diving deeper into the sport. I can’t wait to see what new skills I’ll pick up and how much fun I’ll have.
If you’re thinking about trying hockey, I definitely recommend checking out programs like this one. It’s a fantastic way to learn the game, make new friends, and have a great time!
